House Rules

Look after yourself, your training partners and the academy. These rules apply to everyone on the mats.

Come ready to train

  • Come clean. Wear freshly washed training clothes and keep fingernails and toenails short.
  • Shoes off on the mats; shoes on off the mats. Wear slippers or shoes when using the bathroom.
  • Remove jewellery. Wear training clothes without exposed zips or hard fasteners.
  • Do not train with a suspected skin infection or contagious illness.

Look after your training partners

  • Release immediately when your partner taps or says “stop.”
  • Apply submissions gradually and match your pace to your partner’s size and experience.
  • No jumping attacks or slams. Avoid reckless movements and keep your partner safe.
  • Follow the coach’s instructions on permitted techniques. Ask before trying anything unfamiliar.
  • Stop when space becomes unsafe, and tell the coach about injuries or concerns.

Respect the room

  • Arrive on time, listen during demonstrations and let the coach know if you need to leave early.
  • Welcome beginners and respect everyone’s boundaries. Anyone may decline a round or take a break.
  • Ask before filming or photographing anyone, and before sharing their image.
  • Keep belongings clear of training areas and leave shared spaces tidy.
